Women’s Mountain Bike Clinics
WELCOME BACK!! It is time to dust off your mountain bikes and start thinking about riding again. We are excited to be offering the Women’s Mountain Bike Clinics based out of Steamboat Ski & Bike Kare. The clinics meet at Ski & Bike Kare at 5:45, corner of Lincoln and 5th Street.
This year we have decided to take a different approach. We know how much you ladies like to ride – so we are incorporating group rides into our clinic schedule. The GROUP RIDES will allow you to practice your learned skills, and if you have any questions, your coaches will be on-hand to assist.
If you have not had a chance to join us, we would love to have you come on down. The format is very casual and open to women of all abilities even if you have never ridden on a trail before. We will be sure to make everyone in the group feel safe and confident. Biking is a great way to get fit, and we want to make sure that it will remain fun at the same time.
What are the clinics like? When we first get there, we go over basic bike maintenance – cleaning your bike, changing a flat, etc. Then we talk about the skills for the evening and do demonstrations that apply. The group will break into groups based on skill and fitness level. Each group, lead by a coach, will then go on a ride on Emerald Mountain and work on the clinic’s topic. The coaches are always open to questions and will give advice on any aspect of riding.
Why were the clinics started? The clinics were started because we saw the need for women to be active in the sport. Women tend to learn in a different way than men and often are frustrated with learning from men. We wanted to provide a supportive environment where women can ride together and learn techniques many men don’t even know. As women, we learn best by understanding the mechanics of the skills needed in order to finesse the bike over obstacles. Men can rely on brute force for most things. The clinics also provide an opportunity to meet other women who share your interest in biking. We hope that you will find riding partners that are at your same riding ability. This will only make you ride more often and also have someone to learn and share laughs with.
NEVER EVER clinics have been introduced this year to provide a forum for women who are new to biking or who have never ridden on mountain biking trails. This is a great place to learn the basics about biking and the recommended gear. You will also learn some basic skills so that you can enjoy this exciting sport safely.
All updates, schedule changes, and helpful tips can be found on our Facebook page, Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare Women’s Clinics. Please feel free to use this forum to invite other women on your rides.
